Compatibility

Q: How can I tell if my vehicle is compatible to the products offered by Auto Dimming Mirrors.com?

Q: Why are my rain sensors making my vehicle not compatible?
A: You may place a Auto Dimming Mirror on your vehicle that has a rain sensor. Unless it is one of our compass mirrors. The rain sensor affects the read out of the Compasses operation.
Q: Why is my vehicle on the do not sell /not compatible list?
A: Reasons for incompatibility could be: windshield has too sharp of an angle, shattering or cracking of a windshield can be the result of removing the existing mirror's mount, the vehicle's rain sensor may be interrupted, or a passenger side airbag sensor can be disabled.

Auto Dimming

Q: Is there a Mirror that is Auto Dimming only?
A: Yes, the 50-GEN-K2
Q: How do Auto Dimming Mirrors work?
A: 1. A forward-facing sensor recognizes low ambient light levels and signals the mirror to begin looking for glare.

A: 2. A rearward-facing sensor then detects glare from the vehicles traveling behind you, sending voltage to the mirror's EC gel in proportion to the amount of glare detected.

A: 3. The mirror dims in proportion to the glare and then clears when the glare is no longer detected.

A: 4. The interior mirror's sensors and electronics control the dimming of the mirrors.
Q: Will my new Rearview mirror connect to my existing, auto dimming side view mirrors?
A: Yes - they will operate from the same sensor.
Q: Can I turn off the auto dimming feature?
A: Yes you can turn this feature off. Use the on/off button on the front of the mirror.

Compass

Q: Can I have a ®Homelink mirror without temperature but still include the compass feature?
A: Yes - The 50-GEN-K2.
Q: How do I calibrate or program the compass?

Q: How do I know what zone to calibrate my mirror to and can I change it later?
A: Within the installation instructions there is a calibration zone map for each zone worldwide. You can change the zone at any time you wish.

Temperature

Q: How do I calibrate my dual display compass and temperature?

Q: Is the location of the temperature probe important?
A: Yes - if located too close to an engine, or the exterior climate, it may read the heat of the engine or the ground - see installation instructions.
Q: Can I have my temperature run to read the interior temperature?
A: Yes.
Q: If I do not wish to connect my mirror's temperature what will happen?
A: The mirror will read OC for open circuit if the temperature gage is either not working, or not hooked up properly. If you already have outside temp most people run the temp so it reads the inside Temp.
Q: Do the mirrors have Fahrenheit and Celsius options?
A: Yes you may choose one or the other - not both.
Q: What can be done for my mirror if it is reading of -20 degrees F or lower?
A: First be sure you are on the Fahrenheit reading - if you already are and the problem persists, turn off ignition for 2.5 hours. Do not unplug mirror.
Q: What if my temperature gauge is reading too low?
A: Clean corrosion from temp probe contacts and /or at harness connection.

Dual Display

Q: What is Dual Display?
A: The temperature and the compass features will read out simultaneously in the same digital window on the face of the mirror.
Q: Can I turn off one of the two read-outs of compass and temperature Dual Display?
A: No - these features are simultaneous, and cannot be separated from one another in any way.

Dome Lights

Q: How does the Dome Light feature?
A: The dome light feature is not an additional light - it is the ability the wire the maplights to come on at the same time as the dome lights…when the vehicle door opens. This feature is only available on K30's and K60's.

Onstar

Q: Can I put an Onstar mirror on my vehicle?
A: Yes - but you will need to have the Onstar feature currently with the vehicle prior to a purchasing a mirror with those components.
Q: What components come with an Onstar mirror?
A: Onstar mirrors are K6, K26A. They are plug and play only and do not come with a wire harness. The K26A will only come with the temperature probe.

Q: How do I program the mirror to my garage door?

Chemicals

Q: I hear there are chemicals inside my mirror - are there?
A: Yes, an electro chromatic chemical base conductor channels communication between the external sensor & tiny internal sensors.

Button Kit

Q: What is a button kit?
A: A mounting apparatus to attach the mirror to a surface - can provide a new mount should the existing mount be incompatible to the Auto Dimming Mirror
Q: What is the cost of a button kit?
A: Button Kits are provided free of charge to all Auto Dimming Mirrors.com mirror customers - upon request

Ice Feature

Q: What is the Ice indicator?
A: An ICE indicator will display for one minute when the temperature is at or below 37 degrees. This feature cautions you to anticipate road-icing conditions.
